Northern Alumni Network 2018 - Event Review

— 08.05.18

The second ever Northern Alumni Network event took place on 3 May at the Management School.

Co-organised with our colleagues in the School of Law and Department of Economics, this intimate event saw 40 guests, a complimentary mix of alumni and academic/professional services staff, conversing in fluid, easy conversation as part of our ongoing championing of the growing network for the UK North.

Welcoming our guests to canapes, fizz and wine, light networking was followed by an inspiring introductory address by Associate Dean International, Alumni & Accreditation, Professor Andrew Simpson.

The core part of the event was a fascinating and entertaining workshop by Dr Kamal Birdi about his innovation tool, CLEAR IDEAS.

Working in a large group but also as individuals, Kamal was able to utilise the energy and knowledge in the room to great effect. The chosen ‘query theme’ was how to further develop and swell our active alumni community. It was a perfect topic which ignited and generated many ideas which our Alumni Team can review, assess and take forward.

As a result of this stimualting and highly-absorbing group discussion, the post-workshop networking enabled our alumni guests to creatively intermingle, whilst also enabling for thought-provoking discussion about what it means to be SUMS ‘alumni’.

Once again, event feedback showed over 95% satisfaction rate with the event and our guest speak receiving high praise for the fun and easy-going approach adopted for the workshop curation.
